The government has urged Kuwaiti investors to invest in its Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Hi-Tech parks.
The appeal was made during the first Bangladesh-Kuwait political dialogue held in Dhaka, according to a statement by the foreign ministry on Sunday.
Foreign Ministry Secretary Md Nazrul Islam and Kuwaiti Assistant Foreign Minister Sameeh Essa Johar Hayat led their respective delegations at the meeting.
The statement said both sides agreed to “expand cooperation in defence, training, disaster management, and cybersecurity”.
They also prioritised energy, infrastructure, ICT, food security, and halal industries to boost trade and investment.
The two nations also agreed to strengthen cooperation in political, economic, defence, manpower, development, and cultural fields, the foreign ministry added.
It was decided that the dialogue would be held alternately in Dhaka and Kuwait every two years.
“The two countries expressed satisfaction with the ongoing projects supported by the Kuwait Fund and pledged to increase cooperation in renewable energy, climate-resilient infrastructure, and air connectivity. They also agreed to strengthen cooperation in education and culture.”
The statement said Bangladesh expressed gratitude for Kuwait’s humanitarian assistance in the Rohingya crisis and expressed its commitment to work together on their repatriation.
Both countries reiterated their commitment to continue cooperation in multilateral forums like the UN and the OIC.
